Generate Table of Contents
Automatically generate a clickable table of contents from the document structure.
Overview
The Generate Table of Contents tool analyses the heading structure of a PDF document and creates a clickable table of contents with bookmarks. The TOC can be added as a new page at the beginning of the document and as a bookmark tree in the PDF navigation panel. This improves document navigation, especially for long reports and manuals.
How to Use
- Navigate to Generate Table of Contents from the Analysis menu.
- Upload your file using drag-and-drop, Browse Files, or cloud storage (Dropbox / Google Drive).
- Click Generate to process.
- Download the result when processing completes.
Options
The tool automatically detects headings based on font size, weight, and structure. The generated TOC entries link directly to the corresponding sections within the document.
Tips & Notes
Documents with consistent heading styles (clear size hierarchy between H1, H2, H3) produce the most accurate table of contents. Tagged PDFs with proper heading structure yield the best results.
If the document does not contain recognisable headings, the tool may not be able to generate a meaningful TOC. Consider using Edit PDF to add bookmarks manually in that case.
