Add Headers & Footers

Place custom text, page numbers, dates, and filenames in the header and footer areas of every page.

Overview

The Add Headers & Footers tool lets you stamp text into six zones on every page of a PDF: left, centre, and right for both the header (top) and footer (bottom) areas. This is commonly used to add document titles, confidentiality notices, page numbering in "Page X of Y" format, dates, and filenames.

How to Use

  1. Navigate to Add Headers & Footers from the Editing menu.
  2. Upload your PDF file using drag-and-drop or the file browser.
  3. Enter text into one or more of the six header/footer zones.
  4. Optionally use tokens like {page} or {date} for dynamic content.
  5. Choose a font and size, then click Add Headers & Footers.
  6. Download the result when processing completes.

Text Zones

Each page has six available text zones arranged in a grid:

LeftCentreRight
Header LeftHeader CentreHeader Right
Footer LeftFooter CentreFooter Right

You can fill in any combination of zones. Empty zones are simply left blank.

Tokens

Use these tokens in any text zone and they will be replaced with the actual value on each page:

TokenReplaced WithExample
{page}Current page number3
{pages}Total number of pages12
{date}Today's date (dd/MM/yyyy)04/04/2026
{filename}Original filename (without extension)Annual Report

Example: entering Page {page} of {pages} in Footer Centre produces "Page 3 of 12" on the third page of a 12-page document.

Tips & Notes

Tip

For professional documents, use a small font size (8–10pt) and place the document title in the header and page numbers in the footer.

Tip

Combine with the Add Watermark tool in a workflow to add both a watermark and headers/footers in one step.

Note

Headers and footers are stamped as permanent content. They cannot be removed after processing without re-uploading the original file.
